Manaaki Tamariki Mural

Mural, Manaaki Tamariki Childcare Centre, Gisborne, 2004

These photos show part of a mural painted in 2004. The theme of this work was "Pacific", parts of which were inspired by my time in Rarotonga (as you can see in no.2 - ladies sewing a Tivaevae). In this work, which was 60 feet long on a corrugated iron fence , I have tried to weave in bits of New Zealand and the Islands, and have used text like a story book to make it interactive for the children. On one of the end panels I finished this mural with a map of the islands of the pacific.
